Rep. Janice Hahn pushes bill to create more affordable housing. U.S. Rep. Janice Hahn, D-San Pedro, has joined House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, D-Bakersfield, to introduce legislation designed to create more affordable housing in Los Angeles.
The Moving to Work Reform and Expansion Act would amend the Moving to Work Program, authorized by Congress in 1998, to exempt public housing authorities from some federal regulations, allowing for more locally designed housing plans that “incentivize self-sufficiency, increase housing options for low-income families” and make use of federal funds more efficiently. A news release from Hahn’s office said this would open the way to partner with nonprofits for support services.
The bill has been endorsed by the Housing Authority of Los Angeles County, California Veterans Assistance Foundation, the Council of Large Public Housing Authorities and the Public Housing Authorities Directors Association.
